by Paul List:
Brothers and sisters in Christ, what a hope we have in Jesus!
Looking forward and upward is the heart set of the Christian. We have hope, we have joy; we have Jesus! This last year we have seen great division in our nation. We have seen and are still experiencing isolation from each other. Last month we saw almost two weeks of under 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Things were looking bleak and grey; the sky, the divided political landscape, humanity in general. Christians have something that the world does not. No government can overthrow the eternal hope of Christ. No bad weather can deter the Holy Spirit from reaching His people. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ! Romans 8:35-39 reminds us of that.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Christians stand firm on the promise of God’s unstoppable love and God’s unstoppable power. Christians draw our strength from His unending love and sovereignty. We do not see the world from a worldly viewpoint. We see it as a temporary part of God’s eternal plan. We have the assurance that this life, this world, this universe is not all there will ever be. Christians have His Word and His promise that He will make all things right. The slate will be wiped clean, and a new heaven and a new earth will be made. Just as the frost, melts and flowers burst out of the seemingly dead earth, so too will His power re-create the corrupted!
Revelation 21:1 says:
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, we have hope. We have an eternal future, fulfill your commission and share this hope with everyone around you. Call the world to repent, and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Share this holy hope with all you can.
