The Impossible Made Real

by Bob Allen:

When was the last time you meditated on your ears?

Seriously, have you thought about how miraculous they are?

Once upon a time, my wife and I lived in an apartment with a railroad track some 100’ from our backdoor. We didn’t think much of it when we moved in, and then the first night, several trains threatened to plow into our bedroom. At that moment, we questioned whether or not we had made a mistake in our selection of our living quarters. In hindsight, it turned out not to be a big deal.

Our entire life cycles through unconscious moments of doing. Without even recognizing it, our brains filtered so thoroughly the once jarring, thundering freight cars rolling down the metal rails right outside the sliding glass door leading to our back porch we would forget their existence altogether until we invited friends over and would pause our conversation for the tremors to pass. It was as if our brains just forgot to hear reality.

When I consider the physiological and neurological phenomena that caused our auditory numbness a sense of awe overwhelms me.

What mind fathomed such an intricate system which discerns vibrations in the air, modulates them to a processable medium transmitted through an electrical impulse received by specific microscopic cells which recognize variance in pitch and tone, and then ignores the unessential information, warping perception into a series of blockades which winnows incalculable cacophony into pertinent information?

The depth of the science points me to careful construction rather than happenstance. My experience initiates wonder which cannot be satisfied by an explanation divorced from design. Catching glimpses of something so far beyond even the keenest intelligence starts me thinking through the millions of conditions, perfectly aligned, which allow for life on this world.

It is impossible.

And yet, it exists.

The minuscule chance of my existence, let alone an existence beyond a mere conglomeration of organic material, leads me to look for a Source, an Originator.

If the previous information stuns me, that such a Source, such an Originator, such an inestimable Intelligence exists, I am flabbergasted that such an infinite Being wants me to not only discover Him, which leads me to worship Him, but that same boundless Brilliance desires more than just a distant knowledge, He pursues a personal relationship with me.

If this unimaginable, limitless Creator is for you who can be against you?
