Take 26 of These and Call Me in the Morning.

by Paul List:

In these days of fear and uncertainty, the world’s opinions spin and turn on a dime. One expert says this; another expert says that, like the seasons, men change their opinion and attitude often and predictably.

It is predictable that seasons of change come. Everything in life is changing constantly, what was normal yesterday is now unheard of today. Entire industries crash down as others boom and swell with daily and hourly reaction to newly released information. Nations close their borders, schools close their doors, some businesses close for good as the panic and fear ripple across the globe from this pandemic.

Retirement savings, tied directly to the stock market, crash and dwindle, leaving many people panicked and depressed. Steady jobs, that for generations provided good and steady income for families become questionable at best. Indeed, the change we have experienced in the last couple of months has touched every one of us in some degree, big or small.

Is this the new normal? What news and what opinions does tomorrow hold? How will our lives change next week? These uncertainties are becoming the new normal questions we find ourselves asking each day.

Where can we find solid ground to stand on? Is there anything certain in this crazy, ever changing world we live in? The Bible says there is!

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever.

– Psalm 136:1-3

Twenty six times in this Psalm, we are repeatedly told, reminded and promised that God’s mercy endures forever. God, the Creator by nature, is un-changing. He is the Christian’s rock. He is our faith’s foundation. His mercy endures forever, regardless of war, famine, disease, or season. He is good, all the time. He is merciful all the time! His prominence above all other created beings remains secure; He is God!

The Bible contains eternal truth. These truths do not rely on certain TV networks. These truths do not rely on government officials for approval. God’s promise of mercy is not contingent upon popular approval. Turn from sin and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and your will be saved, is the eternal truth of the Gospel!

No one can ever take that promise from you! No one can make God’s mercy stop enduring! Turn off the fear and turn on His love and mercy for sinners like you and like me! Be filled with His Holy Spirit and enjoy Him forever, Amen!
